Launch of the 'Leap of Faith' sculpture
The Leap of Faith, a sculpture by Gordon Muir in collaboration with The Paul Hogarth Company, was unveiled today in West Belfast by Northern Ireland Minister for Social Development, Alex Attwood MLA. The painted aluminium structure depicts the figures of 21 local school children as they leap forward together, symbolic of the many journeys the individuals and communities of the Stewartstown Road make in their lives. The piece is sited within an undulating landform, through which passes stepping-stones engraved with the names and artwork of each child. The Leap of Faith represents the iconic first phase of the Colin Gateway Environmental Improvement Project, a £3 million initiative by Colin Neighbourhood Partnership, Lisburn City Council and the Department for Social Development. We are now preparing the following phases, including extensive street tree planting, lighting and gateway features.
