DRAFT DOLLAR COMMUNITY PLAN

The draft Dollar Community Plan has been developed through a series of workshops conducted by a Working Group and facilitated by The Paul Hogarth Company. It contains initiatives that will help to shape and inform both the built and natural environment within Dollar over the next 15 to 20 years. The Working Group comprised a cross section of residents and business operators within the community as well as representation from Dollar Football Club, Dollar Academy, Strathdevon Primary School and Dollar Community Council.

The production of this Plan is timely as it will ultimately form the basis of a formal submission on behalf of Dollar Community Council to Clackmannanshire Council, in response to the Local Development Plan which is currently out to public consultation.

The draft Community Plan for Dollar has been developed by the people of Dollar and is one that includes a shared vision that collectively reflects the aspirations and ambitions of Dollar’s residents and businesses.

The masterplan, which was identified as a catalyst project in the One City Regeneration Plan, encompasses a large area entailing the Brandywell, Fountain and Bishop Street communities, sets out a vision for the future, establishing it as a gateway not only to the city, but also to new opportunities for employment, leisure and recreation.

Derry City Council Mayor, Alderman Maurice Devenney giving his support to the proposals said: “The proposals will make a significant contribution to the social and economic regeneration of the area and the city as a whole. They will be fundamental in generating long-term business, tourism, leisure and employment opportunities.”

The proposals are available for viewing from 21st – 27th March at the Cathedral Youth Club (The Fountain) and at the Triax Offices (Iona Business Park, Southway) with feedback available until the 28th March 2012. They include visuals and short term objectives, such as new play facilities, upgraded sports pitches and traffic calming measures. For the more medium term it identifies opportunities for new employment at Iona Business Park, training at the former Ben Sherman Shirt Factory and redevelopment of the Brandywell Stadium. Longer term ideas include reshaping of the ever unpopular Lecky Road Fly-over and an innovative transformation of the peaceline into a ‘working wall’. The Draft Masterplan also contains exciting proposals for new leisure facility in the Daisyfield area, linked to Prehen by a futuristic landscaped footbridge. In direct response to initial concerns raised by Councillors, proposals for the Fountain estate have been added to and now include a much needed play area in the centre of the area.

The draft masterplan has been developed by a consultant team led by The Paul Hogarth Company in a process involving consultation with local stakeholders and government departments. Derry City Council and The Paul Hogarth Company would now like to invite members of the public to view and comment upon the draft proposals which will be on display at the following locations:

Cathedral Youth Club, 96-98, The Fountain (21 – 27 March 2012)

Triax Offices, Iona Business Park, Southway (21 – 27 March 2012)

The consultant team was also on hand to discuss proposals in person at the following locations:

Tuesday 20th March (7.00 – 9.00pm) – Fountain Primary School, 18 Hawkin Street

Wednesday 21st March (7.00 – 9.00pm) – Long Tower Youth and Community Centre, Anne Street

Derry City Council and The Paul Hogarth Company look forward to hearing your views on the Draft Masterplan so that together we can shape the future of this important part of the city.

A dedicated email address foylevalleygateway@paulhogarth.com has been set up to receive feedback.
