Aviemore Transport Interchange
The public realm improvements in Aviemore focussed on three specific sites, creating a new transport interchange for the highland village. The station forecourt has been rationalised with a sympathetic design that provides an attractive and safe setting for the listed station, with designated zones for cars, buses and taxis to minimise conflict between users. The village green has been transformed with new seating and lighting, a raised performance stage and paved area for small events. On the main approach road, a new roundabout addresses traffic safety issues and creates an improved sense of arrival, using dry stone walling, native planting and distinctive timber lighting columns.
The success of the project is founded on the quality of detailing, materials and the family of bespoke elements of street furniture.
