St. Giles-in-the-Fields Public Realm
St. Giles-in-the-Fields church is situated in the heart of central London. During the area’s thousand year history, it has been the site of a leper hospital, a route to the gallows, and part of ‘The Rookeries’, one of the worst slums in Europe.
Today the churchyard, surrounding streets and Phoenix Gardens are compromised by antisocial behaviour, including prostitution and drug dealing.
The church appointed us to work with Camden Council and local developers to deliver an area regeneration project, complementing massive investment in properties and the new crossrail station nearby. This project is founded on physical improvements to the environment, and also working with the community to secure long-lasting social benefits.
